" I wanted to make a film about crime", said Clouzot, "not a detective film". After the violent film noir The Raven, we rediscover Clouzot's vision in Jenny Lamour, "a vision of the world that goes beyond appearances. Rather, it explores the psychology of what lies deep beneath appearances, and reveals a humanity at once pitiful and sordid, yet touching in its truth" (J. Siclier). "Clouzot's talent lies in the great liberty with which he treats his characters. He never tries to make them likable, never takes their side. This gives the action an independence that naturally helps the film's truth. Left to their own devices, the heroes act according to their nature and not out of desire to please the audience" (J. Lenoir).
