Beautiful singer Cléo is waiting for the results of medical tests. Considered as the appointed producer of the New Wave, Georges de Beauregard offered Agnès Varda an opportunity to produce a low-budget film. Varda ventured into this “concept” film: “it was a question of taking up the challenge of a narrative limited by time and geography”. The metamorphosis of a character is all the more spectacular as it is made up of the unison of the clocks and mirrors of the city. The mental space of Cléo, who is obsessed with her own self-image, encounters a reality close to us: the effect is fearsome. In the core of this narrative is a mini-film made in one day: “The light on that particular day and the overall good humour remain a memory for me which symbolises the New Wave as we lived it, imagination in power and friendship in action”.
