"It's easy to guess that in this film Kieslowski confronts his own dilemma: how should he go about filming? The story's value isn't reduced to the choice of not adopting a moral viewpoint, nor to the resistance given to power. This film, full of self-irony, displays great faith in the truthfulness of the camera. Kieslowski, just like his character, gives priority to his job as a filmmaker, refusing to be discouraged by the obstacles in his way. He has a cold rage that films to survive" (T. Sobolewski).
