Every year for 12 years, director Richard Linklater brought together the same actors for a unique film on the family and time passing by. Ellar Coltrane grew up in front of Linklater's camera, making the fiction a sort of home movie. Everything is inspired by the real lives of the group taking part in this crazy project. The script had no predefined dialogues, but an overall outline. The scenes were written before the shooting restarted to take into account the development of the characters. “This broad mix of vitality and melancholy makes Boyhood a miracle” (Le Monde).
