Antoine et Colette
François Truffaut

Antoine Doinel is working at his first job in a record store. During a concert at the Salle Pleyel, he falls in love with Colette, a student and fellow music lover. He receives Colette's parent's affection, but remains frustrated by the young lady's "frank" relationship with him.

Antoine and Colette, the first segment of the film Love at Twenty, was Truffaut's only commissioned work. It allowed him to continue the adventures of the hero of The 400 Blows. "I may have doubts about my choices and my way of working, but never about my profession. I wanted to work with the same character, Antoine Doinel, and film him in that same pseudo-documentary manner as I did in The 400 Blows, only here he falls in love for the first time. The film was truly improvised. We just had the basic structure. I knew I wanted him to be a music lover who meets a young woman, herself a music lover, who breaks his heart." (F. Truffaut)
