Des figues en avril is a funny and moving portrait of Messaouda Dendoune, filmed by her son, Nadir. Besides the endearing, mischievous, determined and passionate character of this 82-year-old woman, we also discover her everyday life in her two-roomed flat on the Ile Saint Denis, punctuated by the invisible presence of the absent. Every day she learns how to live without her husband Mohand, who suffers from dementia, and who now lives in a care home. Messaouda, lulled by emblematic Kabyle singers, such as Slimane Azem, talks proudly about her view of France exemplified by popular neighbourhoods and the future of her children.

Nadir Dendoune is an independent journalist. In 2008, he posed as an experienced mountain climber and joined a group of professionals. On 25 May that same year, against all expectations, he reached the summit of Everest. In January 2017 the film L'Ascension (The Climb), co-written by Nadir and based on these events, was released. In his fourth book, Nos rêves de pauvres, he tells the story of his family. The following year Des figues en avril, a documentary about his mother, was a great success. Petits Pas, his fourth documentary, the story of the first experience in the mountains of some young men “in conflict with the law”, has just been released.
