10e chambre - Instants d'audience

Raymond Depardon
2004 - France - 1h45

From a simple summons for drunk driving to the night's accused, the everyday life of a court: twelve cases, twelve stories of men and women who, one day, found themselves facing justice.
For three months, Raymond Depardon filmed cases in the 10th Chamber of the Paris Criminal Court. These cases were less spectacular than those requiring an immediate appearance shown in Délits flagrants. From insulting a police officer to drunk driving, people facing justice are all filmed “naked” before the authority of justice. The way Depardon films shows in an almost theatrical way the everyday life of this justice, made up of pieces of life, between comedy and intimate drama. The montage ends voluntarily on a case that is difficult to resolve and leaves us wondering about the strengths and limitations of the judicial system.
