Regina Pessoa, Abi Feijó - Figures of the Portuguese animation

Histoire tragique avec fin heureuse

Regina Pessoa
2005 - Portugal / Canada / France - 07mn

Screenings : thursday 25 - 7:00 pm - Pathé - 1 - presented and followed by a debate with the film director saturday 27 - 10:30 am - Pathé - 1
Some people are different despite themselves and would just like to be the same as everyone else and blend into the crowd. Some spend their lives trying to hide their difference. Others accept it.
Regina Pessoa works by drawing her characters on glossy paper and then partially covering them with Indian ink. She then scratches off the ink to reveal the details of her characters. She constructs her drawing not only by adding material, but also by removing it using a blade to scratch off the top layer and create light. Regina Pessoa chose this technique to deal with a very personal project. This film, which talks about difference, is dedicated to her mother, who was schizophrenic. Histoire tragique avec fin heureuse (Tragic Story with Happy Ending) has won numerous awards around the world (including the Cristal at Annecy in 2006) becoming the most awarded Portuguese animation film ever.
