Nicht ohne Risiko

Harun Farocki
2004 - Germany - 52mn

Negotiations over a period of two days between a venture capital company and a company that needs money to develop a new product.
Harun Farocki was obsessed with filming the disappearance of manual labour and its replacement by white collar jobs, and also with documenting an unrepresented present. In this way, Nicht ohne Risiko (Nothing Ventured) is exemplary as it enables us to witness negotiations which are essential to the operation of the economy. “The meaning of venture capital is explained by the film itself. Banks only loan money against collateral. If you don't have it, you have to turn to venture capital investors and pay interest of up to 40 %. At least.” (Harun Farocki, 2004)
