Diary of a Fleeting Affair

Chronique d'une liaison passagère

Emmanuel Mouret
2022 - France - 1h40

Screenings : sunday 21 - 10:15 am - Grand Théâtre
A single mother and a married man become lovers. They promise to see each other only for pleasure and to have no feelings of love. They are increasingly surprised by how well they get on…
“At a party, Charlotte (Sandrine Kiberlain in one of her comfort zones, the register of the go-for-it girl who is, or is pretending, to be uninhibited, since Rien sur Robert (Nothing About Robert) by Pascal Bonitzer) tries to pick up shy Simon (Vincent Macaigne, the embodiment of the sensitive man in Emmanuel Mouret's cinema). Simon is married, and Charlotte is single. They sleep together, after having made a pact: no question of attachment, of falling in love, of starting a real affair. Nothing heavy! Especially as Charlotte hates passion… Viewers – who weren't born with yesterday's romcom – immediately guess what is going to happen. The lovers get on
well (including when they talk together), see each other very soon after and feelings are aroused (in a very Annie Hall Woody Allen way). It's already too late, they both know it, have already experienced it. But there's no question of saying it at the risk of breaking the charm of their affair and falling into ridicule, or into something sordid. (...)
Chronique d'une liaison passagère (Diary of a Fleeting Affair) is Emmanuel Mouret's best film to date”. (Jean-Baptiste Morain; Les Inrocks)
