The Champion

Charlie Chaplin
1915 - United States - 31mn

Screenings : monday 22 - 10:00 am - Centre de congrès - Auditorium - presented by Guy-Baptiste Jaccottand - organiste
To make a little money, Charlie walks into a boxing gym to offer himself as a sparring partner to a champion. As the champion works through his partners, he soon comes to regret his audacity.
After The Knockout, produced by Keystone in 1914, this comedy confirmed Chaplin's interest in boxing. In 1915, boxing was illegal in most American states, and films showing fights (including comedy films) were in constant demand. Chaplin fully developed the idea of his character tramp with a dog in 1918 with A Dog's Life, and the hectic, irresistible choreography of the match foreshadowed the famous boxing fight in City Lights.
