“You know, when I was young I fell in love with the Virgin Mary. It happened in a small Bavarian town called Altötting.” Bewitching and deeply personal, Altötting is a coming-of-age film marked by love, faith, mortality, and broken illusions.

Altötting follows the childhood and personal development of director Andreas Hykade in a Catholic environment in Altötting (a site of pilgrimage since the 9th century located in Germany). The film plays with a double aesthetic between black and white and colour. Regina Pessoa collaborated on the golden palette which illuminates the Virgin Mary.
