1950, Yorkshire, England. Ginger the chicken dreams of open spaces and freedom. Locked in the chicken coop at Tweedy's Farm, she tries to escape every day, but in vain. Her hopes are rekindled when rooster Rocky Rhodes lands in the poultry yard.
The first big screen feature by the creators of Wallace and Gromit, Chicken Run is a young person's version of John Sturges's The Great Escape with Steve McQueen, and also George Orwell's Animal Farm. For this libertarian fable, “the two creators were faced with the technical challenge of stop motion, frame by frame animation with 40 animators working for 3 years to make the film, sometimes making less than 10 seconds of footage a day.” (Samuel Blumenfeld; Le Monde)
