Summer 1980. Barbara is a paediatric surgeon in an East Berlin hospital. Suspected of wanting to cross to the west, she is transferred by the authorities to a clinic in the provinces, in the middle of nowhere. While her lover Jörg, who lives in the west, is preparing her escape, she is troubled by the attention André, the hospital's head doctor, is paying her. The professional trust he places in her, his attention, his smile … Is he in love with her? Is he in charge of spying on her?
