Via Castellana Bandiera
Emma Dante
2013 - Italy / Switzerland / France - 1h32
On a summer Sunday. The sirocco is blowing relentlessly over Palermo when Rosa and Clara, on their way to celebrate a friend's wedding, get lost in the city and end up in a narrow alley, the Via Castellana Bandiera. At the same time, another car, packed full with the Calafiore family and driven by Samira, takes the same alley in the opposite direction...
Presented in the official selection in Angers in 2014, Emma Dante's first feature film, Via Castellana Bandiera (A Street in Palermo) is inspired by a play she had staged a few years earlier. Emma Dante wrote, directed and performed in “this situation, which is more symbolic than it is realistic, picking out all the possible political and social metaphors: the hurdles in Sicilian society (or Italy, Europe, the world...), rising aggressiveness between classes, wars of all against all, the chaos of ‘living together'...” (Serge Kaganski; Les Inrocks)
