Sicilia!
Jean-Marie Straub, Danièle Huillet
1999 - Italy / France / Germany - 1h36
Exiled in New York, a man returns to his native village in Sicily. During his trip, he meets a gallery of characters before talking about his parents' separation with his mother.
Based on the dialogues of Elio Vittorini's 1939 novel Conversations in Sicily, “Straub-Huiullet” tell the story of the initiatory journey of a man who sets off in search of his childhood, “not only to find places and the dead, characters, sensations, sounds, smells, questions from when he was seven, and also to understand himself”. Their staging illustrates this in a beautiful and simple way and focuses on traditional gestures: herring to grill in winter, peppers in summer...
