Colectiv

Alexander Nanau
2019 - Romania / Luxembourg - 1h49

Following a tragic fire at the Colectiv Club, a disco in Bucharest on October 30, 2015, more and more victims are beginning to die in hospitals from injuries that seemed curable. When a team of investigative journalists discovers that hospital antiseptics are diluted and ineffective, it takes action to expose the scandal and the massive corruption of the national health system and other public institutions.
Four years after Toto su surorile sui (Toto and His Sisters) (Grand Prix du Jury at the Festival Premiers Plans) which explored young children forced to get by using their own resources, Alexander Nanau directed Colectiv. By following the journalists, whistleblowers and government officials involved, Colectiv is an uncompromising and immersive look at systemic corruption in Romania and the victory of the press. “For me, this film is about not taking our democracies and social justice for granted.” (Alexander Nanau)
