Under Fire

Roger Spottiswoode
1983 - United States / - 2h08

Nicaragua, 1979. Dans Managua, a capital turned into a bloodbath by the Sandinista rebels and the forces of the dictator Somoza, three American journalists risk their lives in reporting events. But events will soon drive them to ignore their duty to neutrality…
Considered by many to be Roger Spottiswoode's best film, Under Fire is one of a cycle of films which put journalists at the heart of the matter. Alongside Salvador, The Year of Living Dangerously, and others, this film is inspired directly by the films of Costa-Gavras (which is stressed by the presence of Jean-Louis Trintignant in the cast) and their ability to create entertaining and yet informative fictions on serious political issues. The script is based on real events which changed the course of Nicaraguan history.
