Street photographer Luke Shannon falls for Sally, an MGM Newsreel secretary. Although already courted by cameraman Harry Stagg, she nevertheless shows she has a soft spot for Luke and advises him to buy a camera and to try to get hired as a reporter. His first attempts are catastrophic...
Buster Keaton's first film, shot for MGM, was meant to herald a new stage in his career with the support of a major studio. But, made in 1928, just a year after The Jazz Singer, it was his final star performance. The talkies proved fatal for him. Apart from this love story where “Buster” is depicted as a big, shy teenager, trodden on by other men, he gives us a playful reflection on the power of images. During a riot in Chinatown, the apprentice operator intervenes in the real world and makes it even more spectacular. In the final part of the film, the question of point of view is raised and how it can completely change our perception of an event.
