Conseil de famille

Costa-Gavras
1986 - France - 1h40

Screenings : saturday 2 - 4:15 pm - Multiplexe - 2
Barely out of prison, a father and his old accomplice start breaking safes again. One day, François, the 11-year-old son and electronics genius, demands to go with the two men on their nightly excursion…
Back in France for Costa-Gavras and this incursion into comedy. He adapted a novel by Francis Ryck from the Série Noire collection recommended to him by Yves Montand. For the title role he cast Johnny Hallyday, who had impressed him in Godard's Détective. If the film seems out of place, it is because we often forget the dark humour already in moist of Costa-Gravras' previous films, which are often reduced to their political content. However, Conseil de famille (Family Council) should be seen as a logical continuation of his oeuvre, with this portrait of a family obsessed by “easy money” there is the idea of following the path of all-powerful money and its destructive power. Behind this indefinable comedy another satire on capitalism is hiding.
